Tent Caterpillars

This spring we were hit by an infestation of Eastern Forest Tent Caterpillars. They were everywhere, and very thick, but I wont show the worst of it since it was very gross. But I will show some of the photos that show some of the effects.

As one cans see from the photos, we had complete defoliation of most of the trees in very large sections. It appears as though they mostly attacked Sugar Maple, Red Oak, and Cherry and appeared to have some altitude effects (there was a late frost in the valleys in late May).

Fortunately for us but unfortunately for others in the area, the heavy rains that brought flooding also helped refoliate the trees.
